A Very Hockey Birthday

Ah ha! I remembered what I wanted to write about yesterday. John and I finally went out for my birthday. I had requested that we stay in on my birthday and trade my out-to-eat meal for my first ever hockey experience. We went to see the Mannheim Adler (Eagles) play, and wow, it was fun!

It was the first time John and I had been in a large arena in at least 3-4 years, and that was exciting in and of itself. Then the pre-game ritual started, and we got to cheer on each player as he skated on to the ice. Once the game started, we realized we should have done some research on the rules of the game, because we were clueless with what all the penalties were. (We used the break between the 1st and 2nd period…they are called periods right?…to research penalties.) Someone got thrown out of the game in the first 15 seconds! Craizness!

The downside to having walked from the car to the arena and stayed seated for about 2.5 hours (with the exception of a potty break) at 35 weeks pregnant is that my feet suffered major battle wounds. As soon as we stood up to walk home, my feet felt like they were 20 sizes larger and the soles of my feet were standing on needles. It was a long walk to the car. As soon as we got in, I took off my shoes, put my feet up on the dashboard and took a photo.

It took two days for the swelling to go down. Yikes. I had experienced some swelling before that, but nothing to that extreme.

I’m not really a fan of hockey, but I love going to hockey games.I just find hockey so boring to watch on TV, but to actually be there in person? The energy and the atmosphere suck me in every time.
    Happy belated birthday 🙂

Gotta love those swollen feet. When the swelling goes down after Monkey arrives, you can post a before and after pic. It feels good to show the world you really do have pretty dainty feet! 🙂
ONLY thing I’m going to miss about MN winters…. HOCKEY GAMES! So fun!! Glad you got to experience one before the move.
