The Week in Review

I have to laugh at my title. With the increasing severity of my pregnancy brain, it’s comical to imagine me really remembering what happened over the past week. I have heard that pregnancy brain only gets worse once the baby is born. If I’m calling people by the wrong name and losing my train of thought in the middle of most sentences, I’m scared at how I might function – or not function – come the March/April timeframe.

I will, however, do my best to remember what has been going on. Most importantly, it was John’s birthday yesterday, so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HONEY! We kept everything low-key and had a great evening together. I started the day off right, too (I hope), by waking up early and sneaking into the kitchen to make blueberry muffins and coffee for his breakfast. I was trying to be a ninja and keep everything super quiet, but my giant belly got in the way (it’s been doing that a lot lately) and hit some metal pans together sending a loud clanging noise throughout the apartment. Luckily, the sound didn’t rouse John from his sleep. (I might not see this as a good quality when the baby is crying at 4 AM, though. Love you, honey.) Dinner last night was also tasty. Per John’s request, we had crispy beef tacos with brownies for dessert. Yum!

Working backward, the weekend was pretty busy. Saturday was absolutely gorgeous. After spending the past 6-8 weeks of cold cold weather, and by that, I mean highs in the low 30s or perhaps the 20s, we miraculously received a blast of warm air and it was sunny and 59 on Saturday. That’s unheard of here. It was like we got to go on a tropical vacation, but we didn’t have to leave our house. We took advantage of the beautiful day by going on a 2-hour walk with a stop for lunch at the turnaround point. We ate at this doner place we love, and it must have been “pregnant women crave doner day,” because the only other table in the place had two pregnant women seated at it.

We took Béni along on the walk as well, and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. However, thanks to all the melting snow, he wound up looking like a stray by the end of our walk. His legs, side and rear were all covered in mud, so he got to play in the hose a little bit before coming inside.

The late afternoon was spent working on my business start up tasks and starting the burp cloths I was “making” for Monkey. I sewed strips of cloth to Gerber prefold diapers to jazz them up, and I’m quite pleased with the results. I finished all 12 burp cloths by dinnertime on Sunday, and I have a photo, but it’s not on the computer at the moment. I’ll have to post it in a subsequent update.

Saturday night, we went out for dinner on the Hauptstrasse in Heidelberg to celebrate John’s birthday. Four other couples joined us at the Bier Bretzel (traditional German cuisine), and we had a great time. It was interesting to be seated directly in the middle of the table with the two couples with kids on our left and the two childless couples on our right. The conversations were drastically different on each end of the table, and as everyone noted, we were very appropriately seated in the middle of the two worlds.

I didn’t intend this entry to become a journal of my life, so instead of a week’s update, I think I’ll leave you with our interesting Saturday-Monday replay.

Well, happy belated birthday to John. Yesterday was James Bond’s birthday too!
The weather has been gorgeous. I’m afraid that we’re going to get slapped in the face with some major winter again after this little hiatus.
And yes, pregnancy brain DOES get worse after the baby is born, but that’s probably due to lack of sleep. 😉

I still have pregnancy brain, 3 years later. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Saturday was lovely though, the husband was sleeping because he had CQ on Friday night so he missed it. I think Mikey and I spent a good 90% of the day outside, which has been a glorious break from being cooped up all day.

You’d think I would be used to horrible weather, but I really am not a fan of winter.
