In about 21 hours, I will be sitting down to a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with my husband and some great friends we’ve made here in Germany. It’s bittersweet to be hitting our last holiday season here, but I also think it’s the year we have been the most thankful.

Most immediately, we are thankful for a healthy baby boy. We went to our “big” ultrasound yesterday, known as the anatomy ultrasound. During this appointment, the doctor looks at all different parts of the anatomy like the brain, heart, kidneys and bones and does measurements and looks for any irregularities. Everything looked good, so that is definitely something that we’re particularly thankful for this year. We also found out that my due date was a bit off, and the due date we were given now makes the most sense to us so we’re sticking with it. At our first appointment, we were told March 27th and a few weeks later, the doctor moved it to the 29th. Yesterday, the doctor (a different one from our regular doctor) said our original due date should have been March 25th (what I thought) and that the baby is measuring more like March 24th, so we’re sticking with March 24th. I now feel like I’ve missed a week of my pregnancy! According to this way of counting, I will be 23 weeks tomorrow. Wowzers!

Also, during the scan, Monkey was incredibly unhelpful when getting facial measurements. Every time we have had an ultrasound in the past 5-6 weeks or so, he’s had his hands in front of his face. I hope this doesn’t bode poorly for swaddling!

Not to skip over everything else we’re thankful for, but Monkey is definitely at the forefront of our thoughts these days. We are also thankful for all our blessings, the great friends we have made here, the wonderful friends we’ve stayed in touch with back home, our family, our health, and of course, we’re thankful for one another.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Slapsgiving Thanksgiving!

Actually, newborns love having their hands in their faces/mouths… it’s very comforting & they’re still easy to swaddle. Just put his hands in mittens & up to his face, and you have one happy camper. 🙂

of course this new baby is at the forefront of your giving thanks. anxious expectation. do you feel a new-found kindredness with mary this holiday? however you arrive to the hospital in march… i’m sure you’ll be thankful you didn’t have to ride a donkey through the wilderness to get there! ha!
