“Spring” Cleaning

If we can call this 40-degree weather a heat wave, then we can call last Sunday’s cleaning extravaganza our Spring cleaning.

We started around 3 PM and by 9:30 PM, our apartment looked so much better! We finally hung up a poster that we have been meaning to hang since we got the dining room hutch. I was able to put a lot of our kitchen appliances in cupboards instead of leaving them on the counter. (The hutch provided extra storage places for china, so I now had more cupboard space for less-used appliances)

John rearranged our guest bedroom/office, which is a room we have never posted photos of before. We are planning on finally buying a guest bed to put in there, and we needed to rearrange it in order to have everything fit. He also moved our office bookshelf to our bedroom and put a chair next to it, creating a reading nook.

Here’s a little before and after for you. Living room before

Living room after (we moved that second bookshelf in there 2-3 months ago)

Our bedroom before…

And after

Ooh a sneak speak into the guest bedroom/office! (Plus the new reading nook)

Kitchen after:

And now, our guest bedroom/office:

These random canvases need to be framed and moved, but for now, this is their spot…on the far wall is the closet. Below the canvases will be where the guest bed goes (more or less).

For a random suggestion for the guest room… you might want to consider an air bed so you only have to take it out when you actually have company and can use more of the office space when you don’t 🙂

I bought a queen airbed for about $100 that is double the thickness of a regular air mattress and it is super cozy. Currently using it as my bed until I get into a more permanent apartment. Alexander has a similar one that he got for even cheaper that he is using in his guest room. Anyway, just a thought 🙂

Love the pics of the apartment!

Thanks for the idea! I didn’t know they had double thickness air mattresses. We had considered getting an air mattress, but now that we have some extra room (thanks to rearranging), I think we’re going to go for a “real bed.” We want to have an extra bed or two anyway for one day when we’re able to move into a house, so at least it will be used for awhile!

Since you live in a foreign country, I assume you cannot paint. To dilute the white walls go a little overboard on the art, fabric accessories to add color and don’t hesitate to cover the wallspace as much as you can with items than you can hang on the wall. A large corkboard might provide variety you can change at will.Just a thought. Patty
