Visit to Texas: Photos

As I’ve mentioned before, we visited Texas from December 14-29th. We will never fly Northwest again. Not only were the flights horrendous and the layovers excessively long, but they lost one of our suitcases for 14 days. It was returned to us the day before we flew back to Germany. The moral of the story is to fly American Airlines.

While we were in Texas, we did our best to see everyone, but we didn’t make it around to everyone like we’d hoped. Our trip was much busier and hectic than we had anticipated. Here are the places we went (of what I can remember):

* Alamo Cafe (3 times, yum)
* EZs
* Paesano’s
* Dick’s Last Resort (to meet a few people for drinks on the river)
* Zito’s
* Chuy’s
* Chris Madrids
* Las Palapas
* Twin Sisters
* Hula Hut (Austin)
* Magnolia Cafe (Austin)
* Kerbey Lane (Austin)
* church in Austin (The Austin Stone)
* Rudy’s (Austin)
* Trail of Lights (Austin)
* Hey Cupcake (Austin)
* shopping on South Congress (Austin)
* Trudy’s (Austin)
* Jason’s new house (Austin)
* Jim’s (diner in SA)
* St. Luke’s Christmas Eve service (same church as we were married in)
* 209 wine bar
* Olmos Perk
* J. Alexander’s (twice)
* the movies (we saw Seven Pounds, and I didn’t like it)

We wanted to go to a Spurs game but never made it. Oh well…

Oh, and update on how I’m feeling: I self-diagnosed myself with the flu today. I’m pretty sure that’s what I have. I’m thankful I got the flu mist back in November, though, because if I hadn’t, I’m sure I’d be at the hospital hooked up to an IV. After taking some more ibuprofen this afternoon, I started to feel a little better. Hopefully I’m on the recovery end, because we leave for Garmisch tomorrow!

The final bit of (good) news before I get to the photos is that we finally got our Slingbox hooked up last night. We are now able to watch Time Warner Cable as broadcast in San Antonio, TX all the way over here in Germany. It’s awesome! We love even being able to see commercials. It makesus feel so much more connected to what’s going on over there.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The first couple of photos is from the “farewell to 324” party my old roommates threw. The apartment I lived in during my last 2 years in Austin had been under the same lease for YEARS and girls just moved in and out and put new names on the lease. It’s the end of an era, though, and all the girls have moved on. I was glad I was able to make it to their farewell party while we were in town. (And thanks again y’all for letting us stay there while we were in Austin!)

In this batch of photos, there are also photos from our 5 different Christmas celebrations. Yes…5. We had one with Jimmy, Molly, Will & Julia on Sunday, Dec. 21st before they left for their Christmas in St. Louis. We had 3 on Christmas day: one with my parents, one with John’s mom & Marcus & family, and one with John’s dad & Leigh Ann & family. We had our last Christmas celebration on Saturday, December 27th, when Stephanie, David & Emma were in town. Like I’ve said, it was a busy time! With that in mind, I am really sorry if we didn’t make it to see you during our trip home. Hopefully that’s more motivation for you to come visit us!

    Yes, we definitely don’t get good queso over here. However, that has left me with the motivation of trying to figure out the perfect queso recipe. Although I haven’t perfected it yet, I have found a few things to spice up my old recipe.
