Oh the Woes of Travel

In a period of 4 days, we “visited” the following cities: Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Dallas, San Antonio, Chicago, London, Frankfurt, and Heidelberg. 8 cities in 4 days is exhausting. The trip from San Antonio on was supposed to much simpler, but as usual, American Airlines flight to Dallas was delayed. Had we waited to get on that flight we would have missed our connection to Frankfurt, so they sent us through Chicago and London instead. On the upside, we did sit in first class on our trip from San Antonio to Chicago. This was the most pleasant two and a half hour flight of our lives. Free booze, great food, great seats and a warm towel. How can you beat that?

Nevertheless, 22 hours in airports and 29 hours into being awake, we finally arrived back on post. Neither of us could stay awake, but we managed a dinner before bed.

We will make a post about the wedding and honeymoon soon but we wanted to make a general update first. We are eager to let everyone know that despite being told there was a four to six week wait for housing, we will be let into our new apartment this Tuesday. More on that once we get settled in.

We were also eager to get into the apartment because 3 nights ago we woke up at four in the morning on a deflated air mattress so for the mean time we only have a twin bed. Amazingly we are still able to get sleep.

On Friday night we wanted to out on a little date, so we went to a little “Kaffehaus” that we both like. What’s really cool about this time of year in Germany is that all of the cafes and restaurants have tables outside lining the street. Right now, the Euro Cup Soccer (fussball) tournament is going on and there is a giant TV outside to watch the game on while you sip your beer and eat your food. We quite enjoyed watching the game and are planning on going out to watch the semis and finals later this month during “fiesta mexicana” yes it followed us here. πŸ™‚ It was nice to eat at the kaffehaus especially because it is the home of Sarah’s favorite food here in Germany, an open face sandwich with salami, zucchini, tomatoes, cheese and some delicious spices. (we think this may be the only thing in Germany that actually has spices on it) Yum.

We’ll post again soon. Tschuss!

Before our first date night as a married couple

There was a crazy blue baby statue, and John had to kiss it.

It really was crazy

We sat down toward the end of this street at a table in front of the Kaffehaus

Eating outside is very relaxing when the weather is nice

what crazy traveling! I loved being in Europe for Euro 2006 – it’s so fun! especially the announcers speaking in german/italian/whatever.
I’d so let y’all borrow my futon… if the shipping rates go down before y’all get a bed, let me know & its yours. =)
